Kim will attend freshman orientation

Lead over MacArthur appears insurmountable

New Jersey Democrat Andy Kim will attend a freshman orientation program for new members of the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington this week, one of his campaign aides confirmed today.

Kim, a former Obama White House staffer, now leads two-term Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-Toms River) by 3,427 votes, with about 6,500 provisional ballots still to be counted.  About 60% of those provisional are from Burlington County, where Kim won 59% of the vote.  That makes it highly likely that Kim will win the seat in New Jersey’s 3rd district.

Leadership elections are scheduled for November 28.  Kim is on record opposing Nancy Pelosi for speaker.

Reps.-elect Jefferson Van Drew (D-Dennis), Tom Malinowski (D-Rocky Hill) and Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair) will also be in Washington for the freshman orientation.

Van Drew and Sherrill announced their opposition to Pelosi during their bids for congress.  Malinowski said he would not make a decision until after the election.
