Kern wins Warren freeholder seat

Republican Pohatcong Mayor James Kern defeated Demcoratic incumbent Warren County Freeholder John Massaro. The 29-year-old mayor beat the incumbent by about 22 points, 61%-39%. The freeholder elect received 21,814 votes. Massaro secured 14,155. Kern was elected mayor in 2011, when he was 22 years old. He’s also the treasurer of the Warren County Republican Committee.

Warren officials hit Malinowski over Republican tax law

Officials in Warren County are attacking former Assistant Secretary of State Tom Malinowski over the candidate’s support of a repeal of the federal tax law congressional Republicans passed last year. Of particular issue is the Opportunity Zone program included in that law, which creates tax incentives for investors to revitalize communities still struggling in the wake of the Great Recession. "Tom Malinowski's liberal positions might make him popular with Nancy
