State Sen. Jeff Van Drew (D-Dennis), who is considered the favorite to win New Jersey’s 2nd district congressional seat, says he will not support Nancy Pelosi for Speaker or Minority Leader if he wins his race in November.

“We need to change the leadership in Washington. After more than a decade of leading House Democrats as Speaker and Minority Leader, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi will not have my support as leader in the next session,” said Van Drew.  “After this election, I will carefully consider the potential candidates and support the person who will best stand with us in our fight for South Jersey families. Right now, I’m focused on earning the support of voters in the 2nd district, and the many pressing issues facing South Jersey families and our great country.”

Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson) has said would not back Pelosi and is pushing Rep. Joe Crowley (D-New York) for the post.  Another Democratic House candidate, Mikie Sherrill, has already said she would not support Pelosi for re-election to a leadership post.
