Cryan still undecided on marijuana

State Sen. Joe Cryan is waiting for the legislative leaders and Gov. Phil Murphy to release a final version of a marijuana legalization bill before deciding where he stands on the issue.

“Waiting to see a bill,” he said. “Need legislation before we make the call.”

Cryan said no one had yet attempted to whip his vote on the issue. Senate President Steve Sweeney has previously said those efforts won’t begin in earnest until a final bill is hammered out.

Sen. Nicholas Scutari, the legalization bill’s sponsor, told the New Jersey Globe that he hoped to have a final bill ready by next week, but that’s far from a guarantee.

Amendments are still being made to the bill, and both Murphy’s office and legislative leadership will have to sign off on the bill before it comes before a committee, let alone before it reaches the floor of either legislative chamber.
