State Sen. Brian Stack on Monday said he remains undecided on marijuana legalization.
“Nothing’s changed,” Stack said. “I’m still listening to the conversation on both sides trying to get as much information as I can then I’ll make a decision.”
Stack said neither Senate leadership or Gov. Phil Murphy’s team has attempted to whip his vote on the matter.
Though Murphy and Senate President Steve Sweeney reached a rough deal on marijuana a little more than two weeks ago, a final version of the legalization bill does not yet exist. Sweeney last week said whipping efforts would not begin until the bill had been drafted.
“The argument I have made is I think there should be more public hearings on this, I really do,” Stack said. “Honest, open public hearings so we can learn more. I just think a lot of people don’t have a lot of information on it.”
Stack said that he would likely vote against legalization if no further public hearings were held on the matter.
