Webber wants more debates in CD11

Assemblyman Jay Webber said he was open to additional debates with Mikie Sherrill on Tuesday.

The two congressional candidates currently have three debates scheduled, two on Oct. 9 and one on Oct. 10.

Webber is open to four additional debates, moderated by News 12 NJ, The Bergen Record and Chasing News. He also wants an additional immigration-focused debate.

No dates were specified for those debates.

“Mikie should answer the call to debate Jay in multiple forums over multiple weeks. If she is proud of the agenda she hopes to bring to Washington she should have nothing to hide,” Webber spokesperson Ronica Cleary said. “Jay has agreed to additional debates with Chasing News, News 12 New Jersey and NorthJersey.com and we urge Mikie to accept those promptly.”

  1. Ronica Cleary is clueless when it comes to NJ-11. Where is she from. No GOP candidate has agreed to more than 1 debate in the past 30 years here. For the past 6 years, Rodney Frelinghuysen would only agree to a single Sunday morning radio debate. To call 3 debates “abysmal” is laughable. If Jay Webber can’t make his case in three debates, that shows the real problem is Jay Webber, not the number of debates.
