Sen. Bob Menendez wants Bob Hugin to condemn President Donald Trump’s comments doubting the veracity of Deborah Ramirez’s sexual assault allegations against U.S. Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh because Ramirez was drunk when the incident allegedly took place.
“When a woman says ‘NO,’ it means ‘NO’ no matter what. To say that a woman cannot be the victim of a sex crime because she was intoxicated is victim shaming, plain and simple. It’s an attack on women everywhere,” said Menendez campaign Communications Director Steve Sandberg. “What Donald Trump said about Ms. Ramirez is absolutely disgusting. Bob Hugin’s deafening silence is appalling.”
Hugin has, thus far, remained undecided on Kavanaugh. He said the allegations of sexual assault against the judge ought to be investigated when they were first levelled by Christine Blasey Ford. Before those allegations surfaced, he had called Kavanaugh a highly-qualified individual.
