Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) has a plan to keep the nation from becoming further divided: he wants President-elect Joe Biden to tell House Democrats to oppose the impeachment of President Donald Trump.
“I’m calling on the President-elect, Joe Biden, to say ‘enough.’ Let’s try to come together,” Van Drew said in a Sunday appearance on Fox News. “The way to do that is not to call for another impeachment. The waste of money, the waste of time, the division that will cause in the United States of America.”
Van Drew is a former Democrat who switched parties in late 2019 after refusing to support Trump’s impeachment, was re-elected as a Republican in 2020 after pledging his “undying support” to the president.
The two-term South Jersey congressman used his appearance to attack House Democrats.
“This is going to be difficult because the philosophy of the new Democrats is very, very pro-left and very progressive, but still there are some things in some areas I know that we can work together,” stated Van Drew. “Tens of millions of people still did vote and still do support Donald Trump.”
Atlantic County Democratic Chairman Michael Suleiman said last week that recruitment efforts to find an opponent for Van Drew in 2022 should begin soon.
