U.S. Senator Bob Menendez slammed Jeff Van Drew not just for switching parties but for siding with Donald Trump.

“I am disappointed in Jeff Van Drew’s decision,” Menendez said. “It’s particularly troubling that he has decided to embrace a man the people of New Jersey’s Second District know all too well for stiffing local contractors working on his casinos and then driving them into bankruptcy and Atlantic City nearly into the ground, putting thousands more out of work. “

Menendez said that Van Drew was “part of a blue wave in the last election that swept across New Jersey and the nation to flip the House in repudiation of this president and to put a check on Donald Trump’s power.”

“He seems to have forgotten that,” Menendez said.

Menendez said that Van Drew was a coward.

“We take an oath to uphold and defend the constitution—not to do so only when it is politically expedient,” New Jersey’s senior senator said.  “Jeff Van Drew is hardly a profile in courage.”

According to Menendez, Van Drew will need to be held accountable for becoming an ally of Trump and the Republican Party.

“Ultimately, he will have to answer to his constituents and the voters of the Second District,” said Menendez. “I look forward to working next year to elect a Democrat to represent New Jersey’s Second District.”
