House candidate Amy Kennedy attacked President Donald Trump and Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) over their response to the growing threat of a coronavirus outbreak Tuesday.
“This isn’t a game,” she said. “This is a national health crisis. And yet the only things President Trump and Republican leaders seem to be worried about are the stock market and Trump’s re-election campaign.”
The Centers for Disease Control on Tuesday said it expected “community spread” of the virus, warning that COVID-19 would likely cause “severe” disruptions to daily life.
On Monday, Trump’s administration requested $2.5 billion to deal with the virus, an amount that has drawn bipartisan criticism for being insufficient.
“If Jeff Van Drew is so close to Donald Trump now, why doesn’t he call on his new best friend for more funding, transparency and coordination to provide relief from the most dangerous health outbreak of our time?” Kennedy said. “It’s past time for the adults in the room to stand up and take over.”
