Bob Menendez and Bob Hugin worked the crowds in Rutherford this afternoon, where a local street fair has been the traditional start of the general election campaign season in North Jersey for more than forty years.
Gov. Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy were among the Democrats in attendance, walking through the event with Menendez, along with Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson), Bergen County Executive James Tedesco, Freeholders Tracy Zur, Steve Tannelli, Germaine Ortiz and Joan Voss, and Assemblyman Gary Schaer (D-Passaic).
Hugin was joined by Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi, Bergenfield Mayor Norman Schmeltz, Cresskill Councilman Hector Olmo, and Oakland Councilman Eric Kulmala. Schmeltz is challenging Tedesco; Olmo and Kulmala are running against Zur and Tannelli.
Both candidates had armies of volunteers with them.
