Sharply critical of Senate Republicans for their handling of Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing, Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Hugin wants the Federal Bureau of Investigation to examine allegations of sexual assault made against President Trump’s nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court.
“The Committee’s handling of this entire process has been a disgrace, and as a result the lives of these two individuals and their families will never be the same,” Hugin said. “Let the FBI investigate, as thoroughly and expeditiously as possible, so we can bring these allegations to a final conclusion.”
Hugin had initially backed Kavanaugh but withdrew his support after Dr. Christine Blasey Ford alleged that the federal judge assaulted her 35 years ago. He has not yet announced whether he would now support or oppose the Kavanaugh nomination.
Yesterday, Hugin said he would decide after today’s hearing.
“I think he’s clearly an incredibly qualified, talented jurist,” Hugin said. “I want to watch the hearings tomorrow – I think it’s tomorrow – to make sure I get all of the information. I think everyone should listen to all the testimony, both from any accuser, fully heard, and he should have the opportunity to fully state his case. Then, I’ll make a judgement after that.”
