Khairullah says Hugin should reject racist Grossman

Prospect Park Mayor Mohamed Khairullah, the longest-serving Muslim elected official in New Jersey, says he’s disturbed by Bob Hugin’s hesitancy to disavow Seth Grossman’s candidacy for Congress.

“The fact is Seth Grossman has a history of spewing inflammatory, racist rhetoric that includes social media posts attacking my faith,” said Khairullah.  “I am deeply disturbed by Hugin’s reluctance. This is textbook Donald Trump xenophobia.

Khairullah, a Democrat, criticized the GOP Senate candidate for “deceiving New Jersey voters about who he really is.”

“Bob Hugin has been deceitful since he entered the senate race, hoping to reinvent himself after donating thousands of dollars to the likes of Jessie Helms, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, Scott Garrett, and his biggest investment of all, Donald Trump,” Khairullah  said. “Time after time, Bob Hugin dances around questions at events, deciding to hide behind his television ads.”

On Wednesday, Passaic County Freeholder Assad Akhter, one of the highest ranking Muslim elected officials in the state, also bashed Hugin for his position on Grossman.
