Bob Menendez will have some of the most well-known names in New Jersey politics to run his campaign for re-election to the United States Senate.
At the helm again is his top political advisor, Michael Soliman, who will serve as campaign chairman. His campaign manager will be Frank Schultz, his state director and a 12-year Menendez staffer. Steve Ayscue, who has been winning races for three decades, will be Menendez’s top strategist.
Menendez is again using Steve DeMicco and Brad Lawrence of Message and Media as his consultants. They worked for Menendez in 2006 and 2012, as well as on his congressional races. Joel Benenson and Danny Franklin of the Benenson Strategy Group, will again work as Menendez’s pollster. Roy Temple of GPS Impact, who worked on Phil Murphy’s 2017 campaign, will be the digital strategist.
Two other Mercury people will join Soliman: Raphael Chavez-Fernandez will be the deputy campaign manager, and Juan Melli will be the digital director. Samantha Maltzman will head up fundraising, Missy Balmir will be the Black Base Vote director – a role she played for Menendez in 2012 and Cory Booker in 2013 – and Wendy Martinez will be the Latino Base Vote director.
“The stakes in this election are higher than ever as our values are under assault by President Trump and his enablers, including his New Jersey campaign finance chairman Bob Hugin,” said Soliman. “Bob Hugin supported the Trump tax plan that cut taxes on millionaires like him but raised taxes on ordinary New Jerseyans, and in the Senate he would let Trump do whatever he wants. With the addition of top talent with deep New Jersey roots and a track record of winning campaigns, we’re going to make sure New Jersey has a Senator that will stand up for our values and fights to protect New Jerseyans from Trump’s agenda.”
