Toto announces Assembly bid

By Nikita Biryukov, November 19 2018 7:37 am

Somers Point Councilman James Toto announced Monday he would mount a bid for Assembly in the second legislative district.

Both of the districts Assembly seats are currently held by Democrats. Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo has held his seat since winning it over Republican Will Pauls in 2013.

Assemblyman John Armato took the seat left vacant by State Sen. Chris Brown in 2017, when Brown, then an Assemblyman, ran for a seat in the legislature’s upper chamber.

Brown won that race, but he ended up being the district’s only Republican representative in the legislature.

“In the military we had Murphy’s Law: anything that can go wrong, will go wrong and at the worst possible moment,” Toto said in a press release. “Now, thanks to the ineffective leadership of Atlantic County’s assemblypeople we have Governor Murphy’s Law: anything that can be taxed, will be taxed and at the highest possible rate”
