Assemblyman Raj Mukherji and State Sen. Brian Stack are backing Gov. Phil Murphy for a second term.
“Yea, I think that there’s plenty of time for it, but obviously I’ve been very supportive of the governor,” Stack said. “I think he’s trying to do the best under the circumstances.”
Over his first year and half of his term, Murphy has repeatedly feuded with Senate President Steve Sweeney, once a Stack ally.
Sweeney removed the senator, who is also mayor of Union City, form his posts on the Senate Judiciary and Appropriations Committees over his allegiance to the governor.
The Hudson County Democratic Committee and many of Hudson County’s legislators have aligned with the governor in those fights as well as in a proxy fight over control of the state Democratic chairmanship.
“He’s the party’s standard bearer,” Mukherji said. “I think the best indicator of whether you rehire someone is how they’ve done, and he’s been a stellar governor.”
