Tom DeGise staying out of Fulop ally’s BoE re-election race

Sudhan Thomas allegedly wrote checks to cash from JCETP coffers

Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise is staying out of Jersey Board of Education President Sudhan Thomas’s re-election race.

“Other than when Amy ran, I haven’t gotten involved at all in Board of Education matters. When Amy ran, I backed her. I didn’t back her as part of the slate or anything,” DeGise said. That was just a dad supporting his little girl, so I have no intention this time of getting involved.”

Amy DeGise, the county executive’s daughter, sat on the Jersey City’s School Board but resigned after she was elected to be Hudson County’s Democratic chairwoman.

Thomas, a close ally of Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, has recently come under fire for allegedly writing out checks from a Jersey City Employment and Training Program bank account to cash.

Thomas, who helped orchestrate the ouster of former Gov. James McGreevey earlier this year, resigned from his post at the head of the JCETP in July after a former program employee filed a whistleblower lawsuit claiming she was fired after raising concerns about Thomas’s financial management of the agency.
