LeRoy Jones, Jr. officially dropped out of the race for Democratic State Chairman today and endorsed John Currie for re-election.

The announcement comes one day after the two agreed to a deal where Currie will serve until June 2021, when Jones will become state chairman.

“Throughout this process I have maintained my friendship with Chairman Currie and I consider him to be an example of exactly the kind of leader our party needs, said Jones, the Essex County Democratic Chairman. “I have worked hard to build our party for my entire adult life, starting in my local community as an activist and elected official and later leading the Essex County Democrats at a time when we have consistently produced more votes for statewide Democratic candidates than any other county.”

Currie said that the election of a state chairman has been scheduled for January 11.

“I look forward to passing the torch to Chairman Jones, and I have great confidence that he will continue the important work we are doing to make our Democratic Party an ever greater force for positive change,” Currie said.
