Menendez airs anti-Trump TV ad

Second ad contrasts Social Security record with Hugin

U.S. Senator Bob Menendez has released two new TV ads, including one called “Court” that highlights his opposition to President Donald Trump’s agenda, including his Supreme Court nominees, while saying that Bob Hugin would vote for Trump’s nominees.

Menendez’s other ad, “Stopped” compares his work to protect Social Security and Medicare while hitting Republican opponent Hugin for paying $280 million to settle a lawsuit alleging that his company defrauded Medicare.

The script for “Court”: Bob Hugin said he’ll vote for all of Trump’s Supreme Court nominees. Bob Menendez stood up to Trump every step of the way, including Trump’s Supreme Court nominees.

The script for “Stopped”: “Bob Hugin’s company was sued for Medicare fraud—ripping off taxpayers and patients—and settled for $280 million. Bob Menendez stopped Republicans slashing Social Security and Medicare.

“New Jerseyans have a clear choice in this election: a proven fighter in Bob Menendez who has always stood up for the issues that matter most to them, or Bob Hugin, a Trump-Christie Republican who will never be on our side,” said Menendez spokesman Steve Sandberg.

The Hugin campaign pushed back with a statement attacking Menendez’s ethics.

“Corrupt, career politician Bob Menendez hypocritically claiming he’s fought to protect Medicare and Social Security is a joke,” said Hugin spokesman Nick Iacovella. “His hypocrisy on protecting Social Security is also a disgrace. Menendez voted to increase taxes on Social Security benefits. These two ads are nothing more than a last minute, desperate attempt by one of the most unpopular incumbents in the country. New Jersey voters won’t be fooled.”
