New FDU poll shows deep partisan divide over Kavanaugh nomination

In a district Donald Trump carried by four points, Republican congressional candidate Seth Grossman is trying to tether himself to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh while tying Jeff Van Drew to fellow Democrats who are trying to torpedo the confirmation.

Grossman today called on Van Drew to retract his support for the #BelieveSurvivors movement after a career sex crimes prosecutor who served as special counsel to the U.S. Senate Judiciary Republicans told Senators that Kavanaugh would have been unlikely to be charged with sexual assault due to lack of evidence.

“Van Drew showed he truly is just another radical leftist Democrat when he joined with the Washington swamp attacking Judge Kavanaugh with unsubstantiated sexual assault allegations,” Grossman said.  “He should publicly reject the ruthless and outrageous character assassination tactics being used by the Democrats to smear the Judge, but he won’t.  He’s just another one of them, and that’s what he will do if he is elected to Congress.”

A poll released this morning by Fairleigh Dickinson University showed extreme partisan intensity on the Kavanaugh nomination.  Of likely New Jersey voters, 72% of Republicans support confirmation, while 78% of Democrats want the Senate to reject Kavanaugh.

81% of New Jersey Trump supporters want Kavanaugh confirmed, while 77% of likely voters who disapprove of Trump want him rejected.

A breakdown of the numbers for just the 2nd district on the Kavanaugh confirmation was not immediately available and would be statistically irrelevant because of the small data sample.Grossman has accused Van Drew of being part of an ultra-leftist campaign to delay Kavanaugh’s confirmation until after the mid-term elections, when Democrats think the partisan makeup of the U.S. Senate might improve their chances to defeat the nomination.

“The Democrats turned the Senate Judiciary Hearing into a circus and are doing whatever they can to delay Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination in hope that they will regain control of Congress in November and then nominate their own uber-leftist-ideologue judge to fill the vacancy on the Supreme Court,” Grossman said.  “The problem is that their attack isn’t just against Kavanaugh, it is an assault on our American system of justice.  It is an assault on our basic Constitutional rights, and Van Drew has revealed that he adheres to the radical left.”
