The House passed a resolution, sponsored by Rep. Tom Malinowski, condemning as racist President Donald Trump’s tweets telling four progressive congresswomen to go back to the countries they came from.
“In the final analysis, this resolution is not really about the president,” Malinowski said. “We know who he is — the only remaining question is who are we? Tonight, Congress declared that we are better than this.”
The measure, which had 180 co-sponsors, passed the House 240-187 in a vote that was largely along party lines.
All 235 of the chamber’s Democrats voted for the resolution, as did four of its Republicans and the one independent member of the House.
