Hugin slams Schumer for trying to buy Menendez seat

By David Wildstein, October 25 2018 5:28 pm

Bob Hugin has spent $27 million of his own money to be a United States Senate, but now he’s criticizing Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for helping Bob Menendez win re-election.

“Chuck Schumer is making a desperate, last-minute attempt to buy corrupt, career politician Bob Menendez another six years so he can own his vote,” said Nick Iacovella, a spokesman for Hugin. “New Jerseyans want an independent leader who will put them first, not a hypocrite like Bob Menendez who violated his oath to serve New Jersey by selling his office to his convicted felon donor ‘best friend’ Sal Melgen. Bob Hugin took an oath to serve our country as a Marine and he will honor his oath as Senator to put the people of New Jersey first.”

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, where Schumer exerts considerable control, has spent $900,000 to help Menendez.

A super PAC, the Senate Democratic Majority PAC, is spending $3 million on Hugin attack ads.  Those are independent expenditures and Schumer has no authority over it.
