GOP county chairs endorse Becchi

Rosemary Becchi has won the support of four Republican county chairs in her bid to challenge Rep. Mikie Sherrill

The endorsements, first reported by the New Jersey Globe on Sunday, come from Laura Marie Ali of Morris, Al Barlas of Essex, Peter Murphy of Passaic and Jerry Scanlon of Sussex.

“As the Chairs of the four counties that comprise CD11, we wholeheartedly endorse Rosemary’s candidacy, give her our unequivocal endorsement and are eager to get to work to ensure she is victorious in November,” the four chairs said in a joint statement.

Becchi officially joined the race this morning, two days after agreeing to drop her 7th district bid and switch to the race against Sherrill.

“We welcome Rosemary Becchi into the race for Congress in District 11. She is exactly the type of energetic, dynamic, and articulate candidate we need to reclaim this congressional seat for the Republican Party,” the chairs said. “We thank all the leaders within the party who worked tirelessly to help us recruit Rosemary.

The formal endorsement follows the withdrawal of Larry Casha earlier today.

All four chairs were prepared to back Casha as recently as last Friday, hours before Becchi began to explore switching races.

“I’m honored to have the united support and endorsement of the County Chairs in District 11,” said Becchi.   “I look forward to working with each Chair and Republicans throughout the district to defeat Democrat Mikie Sherill and end Nancy Pelosi’s reign of liberal control over New Jersey’s Congressional representation.”
