ShaVonne Honor, the only candidate to declare a primary challenge at the state level in this year’s special Assembly elections, has withdrawn the race following a challenge to her nominating petitions.
The New Jersey Department of State received a notice of withdrawal from Honor, said department spokesman Tim Carroll.
Honor, a Rutherford school board member, did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Incumbent Assemblyman Clinton Calabrese, who was sworn in to replace Marlene Caride, who vacated the post for a position as Gov. Phil Murphy’s commissioner of banking and insurance, will still face Republican Marc Marsi in November, pending a challenge to Marsi’s petitions.
