Jim Arakelian, the Bergen County District 38 Republican Chairman, announced today that he will not seek re-election to a second term in June.
“For my part, although I’ve enjoyed my time as chair, I believe its best to pass along the gavel to someone else within our district so, I will not be running for re-election this year,” Arakelian said. “I plan on dedicating myself to helping Mayor Schmelz win County Executive in November as well as helping our district candidates.”
District 38 will have special elections for the Legislature in November. The Democratic incumbents —appointed State Sen Joseph Lagana and appointee assemblymembers Lisa Swain and Chris Tully — will be on the ballot. The Republicans have not yet selected their candidates.
