Jalloh may be dumped from Union Freeholder Ticket

Incumbent backed the loser in county chairman fight

By David Wildstein, March 01 2018 7:41 pm

Sometimes picking the wrong horse has consequences, and now Union County Freeholder Mohamed Jalloh faces the possibility that he will be dumped from the organization line at the party’s screening committee meeting next week.

Jalloh, a two-term freeholder from Union Township, supported Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr in a race that was won decisively by State Sen. Nicholas Scutari.  Jalloh is in trouble, according to a source familiar with the candidate selection process, although no replacement has been picked and the possibility exists that Jalloh can still save himself.

Mahr resigned as Fanwood Democratic Municipal Chairman in order to gain an extra vote on the executive committee for some pre-special election procedural issues.

The other two freeholder incumbents up this year, Alexander Mirabella and Bruce Bergen, endorsed Scutari.

Correction: An earlier version of this story misstated the reason for Mahr’s resignation from her party post in Fanwood.  We apologize for the error.
