Doblin joins Sweeney staff

Alfred P. Doblin, the former editorial page editor of The Record, is joining the staff of Senate President Steve Sweeney.  He will replace Trish Graber, who departed the Senate Majority Staff this week for a new post at the Department of Banking and Insurance.

In a Tweet announcing his new position, Doblin said he was “excited about joining” Sweeney’s team.

“It’s an unexpected opportunity. I thank the leaders, past and present, of The Record for their trust, particularly the Borgs,” said Doblin. “And I thank the thousands of readers who’ve enriched my life for nearly 20 years. A new adventure begins.”

Doblin, who spent eighteen years with the North Jersey Media Group, was fired this week after editors found out that he was negotiating with Sweeney for a job while still writing editorials on state issues.

  1. There are so few Trenton-desk reporters covering all things NJ at this point. They’re an endangered species. Doblin is at the top of the game, a gentleman and a fantastic get. Way to go, Sen. Sweeney.

  2. Another sellout by a holier-than-thou editorial writer and supervisor or those others who appeared in his pages, or should I say page since Gannett came carpetbaggging into nothern New Jersey.
