In an extraordinary resurgence, Jonathan Castañeda has won re-election as West New York Democratic Municipal Chairman by a vote of 50-2.
Castañeda had served as chief of staff to Mayor Felix Roque and circulated blank county committee petitions for Roque’s slate in the 2018 primary. Roque alleged that Castañeda flipped to a slate backed by Rep. Albio Sires and Commissioner Cosmo Cirillo and turned over the petitions to them. That forced Roque to spend Easter weekend getting signatures on petitions in 58 districts.
In the primary last week, the Sires slate won all 48 contested races.
