Mendham Borough Mayor Christine Serrano Glassner, currently the frontrunner in this year’s Republican primary for the United States Senate, announced today that she is endorsing former President Donald Trump’s comeback campaign.
“In 2024, voters have the most consequential decision in our nation’s history when we vote for president in November,” Serrano Glassner said in a statement. “We will be choosing between socialism and free markets; between weaponized government and limited, constitutional governance; between proven peace and prosperity solutions for hard working families and doubling down on the failures of globalism. President Trump is the only candidate who has already fought all those battles – and won.”
Trump faces several opponents in the Republican primary to regain the presidency, among them former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who lives around a mile away from Serrano Glassner in Mendham Township. But Christie’s campaign has not taken off, and Trump is widely expected to become the Republican presidential nominee for the third time in a row.
Serrano Glassner, meanwhile, is the only prominent Republican running for indicted Democratic Senator Bob Menendez’s seat, but that could soon change. Three other notable Republicans are also considering entering the race: former News12 reporter Alex Zdan, developer Curtis Bashaw, and Melinda Ciattarelli.
By backing Trump – the first Republican presidential nominee to lose Mendham Borough in decades – Serrano Glassner could be potentially setting the stage for a reciprocal endorsement sometime in the future. If Trump does end up wading into New Jersey’s Senate race on behalf of Serrano Glassner, whose husband was a top Trump campaign official in his 2016 and 2020 campaigns, it would likely give her a substantial edge over any prospective primary opponents.
In fact, Serrano Glassner’s endorsement today echoes the language Trump typically uses for his own congressional endorsements.
“Donald Trump has the strongest record of any president in history on securing our border, cutting taxes, creating jobs, supporting our veterans, ensuring the safety and security of Israel, defending the 2nd Amendment, and Peace through Strength,” Serrano Glassner said. “That’s why Donald J. Trump has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be elected the 47th President of the United States.”
Trump already has the endorsement of one of New Jersey’s three GOP members of Congress, Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis). Van Drew’s colleagues, Reps. Chris Smith (R-Manchester) and Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield), have not yet made presidential endorsements this cycle.
