Former Hunterdon County Democratic Chairman Joey Novick is whipping votes for Bernie Sanders at the first-in-the-state convention to award an organization line for the June 5 New Jersey primary.
Novick served two terms as county chairman and spent fifteen years as a Flemington councilman. He was a Sanders delegate to the 2016 Democratic National Convention.
“Bernie is the best choice to be the Democratic Party nominee to defeat Donald Trump’s agenda of bigotry and conservatism,” Novick said in an email to potential supporters.
Hillary Clinton carried Hunterdon County in the 2016 Democratic primary by 432 votes, 52%-48%, against Sanders.
In 2008, Barack Obama carried Hunterdon by 255 votes, 53%-47%, over Clinton.
Gary Hart won Hunterdon by 57 votes against Walter Mondale in the 1984 New Jersey primary, and Ted Kennedy took Hunterdon by 92 votes over Jimmy Carter in 1980.
