Hunterdon County Democratic State Committeewoman Sharon Ransavage is likely backing U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) for the presidency, though she won’t make it to Hunterdon Democrats’ Sunday convention
“The Hunterdon County Democratic Committee will be holding its convention on February 9th. Much to my disappointment I will not be able to attend having booked a trip well in advance of the date being set. I came to support Bernie Sanders in 2016 because of his vote against the War in Iraq,” Ransavage said in a Facebook post. “The more I got to know him and his supporters the more committed to the cause for which he fights.”
Ransavage’s post included a link to an article written by Zephyr Teachout for The Nation, a progressive magazine, endorsing Sanders.
Hunterdon County Democrats are set to hold their 2020 presidential convention this Sunday.
They’ll be the first Democratic organization in New Jersey to officially back a candidate to take on President Donald Trump.
So far, many of the county’s Democratic leaders have shied away from publicly endorsing a candidate to avoid influencing their rank-and-file members.
