Clinton mayor Janice Kovach, a member of Democratic State Chairman John Currie’s leadership team, has endorsed Mike Bloomberg for president.
“I am proud to give my support to Mayor Michael Bloomberg in the 2020 election,” said Kovach, the secretary of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee. “Because of his business and work ethic, his ability to hear the concerns of individuals, and his appeal to voters on both sides of the aisle, I believe that he is the candidate that can beat Donald Trump.”
Kovach, an ally of Gov. Phil Murphy, is the former director of the New Jersey Division of Women and the first vice president of New Jersey League of Municipalities.
She was re-elected mayor last November by a 2-1 margin in one of New Jersey’s most heavily Republican counties.
Bloomberg has already won endorsements from Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), Paterson mayor Andre Sayegh, Millville mayor Michael Santiago, and local officials from Monmouth and Burlington counties.
At last Sunday’s Hunterdon County Democratic convention, Bloomberg came within four votes of winning the organization line against Elizabeth Warren – a strong showing considering the recency of his candidacy.
“We are thrilled to have the support of Janice Kovach, she is a staunch advocate for women, dedicated public servant, and has an exceptional record for running municipal government efficiently and effectively,” said Mike Muller, Bloomberg’s state campaign director. “It is becoming clear with each passing day that Mike Bloomberg has the momentum and support to win the New Jersey primary.”
