Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-Wyckoff) has joined the parade of New Jersey Democrats supporting Vice President Kamala Harris for the presidency now that President Joe Biden has said he won’t seek re-election.

“What New Jersey likes more than anything is a fighter,” Gottheimer said in a statement. “That’s why I’m with Kamala – and why I’ll be fighting to elect her this November. Everything is on the line, and it’s time for us to unite against Donald Trump. I hope you’ll join me in supporting her.”

Gottheimer was the sixth New Jersey House member to announce their support of Harris, following previous endorsements from Reps. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown)Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing)Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), Frank Pallone (D-Long Branch), and Rob Menendez (D-Jersey City); Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-Paterson) endorsed Harris shortly after Gottheimer.

Gov. Phil Murphy is also supporting Harris, as are a growing number of New Jersey’s Democratic National Convention delegates previously pledged to Biden. It’s still possible another serious candidate will emerge as an alternative to Harris – but Harris is already getting many of New Jersey’s most important power players locked down.
