Following President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the race for president earlier today, Rep. Rob Menendez (D-Jersey City) has become the latest New Jersey politician to announce his support for Vice President Kamala Harris instead.
“President Biden’s leadership and courage paved the way for one of the most productive presidencies in recent history,” Menendez said in a statement. “I am tremendously grateful for his decades of dedication and civil service to our county. I know that Vice President Harris will continue this legacy and I am proud to support her campaign for President.”
Reps. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown), Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing), Mikie Sherrill (D-Montclair), and Frank Pallone (D-Long Branch) have also endorsed Harris, as have Gov. Phil Murphy and 10th congressional district Democratic nominee LaMonica McIver – and Biden himself.
While there is still the possibility of a real challenge to Harris prior to the Democratic National Convention in August, the massive show of support she’s gotten thus far – both in New Jersey and nationwide – will make any such challenge difficult.
