Murphy endorses Harris

New Jersey Governor joins national swing toward Harris as Biden replacement

Gov. Phil Murphy has endorsed Kamala Harris for the Democratic presidential nomination, stating she “has been an outstanding VP and has what it takes to be an even better President.

“She’s a former prosecutor who will draw a sharp contrast against Trump,” said Murphy.  “She has my full support as our presidential nominee and I urge all Democrats to unite behind her candidacy.”

There has been some speculation today that Harris could consider Murphy as a vice presidential candidate.

Had Joe Biden initially not sought re-election, Murphy was a potential presidential candidate.  He had spent months in 2022 meeting with national political leaders just in case he had made that race.

New Jersey Democratic State Chairman LeRoy Jones, Jr. today urged Harris to consider New Jerseyans for the vice presidency, specifically calling out U.S. Senator Cory Booker.

Early today, Murphy praised Biden.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for over fifty years of service to our grateful nation,” Murphy said. “Your time in office will be remembered as one of the most successful and impactful presidencies in American history.”
