The executive director of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee attended a fundraiser for Joe Biden’s presidential campaign last night, even though state Democrats have overwhelmingly lined up in support of favorite son Cory Booker.

Elizabeth Gilbert attended Biden’s Philadelphia event as the guest of her father, former U.S. Ambassador to New Zealand Mark Gilbert, a close Biden friend.   Her father shared photos of the fundraiser on social media.

A state party spokesman said that the Gilbert was there at the request of her father but stressed that Democratic state chairman John Currie is fully supportive of Booker’s presidential candidacy.

Gov. Phil Murphy hosted a major fundraiser at his home last month that raised several hundred thousand dollars for Booker.  Gilbert, the spokesman said, helped plan the event and was instrumental in the success of the event.

Mark Gilbert also has close ties to Murphy.  They were at Goldman Sachs together and he became deputy national finance chairman of the Democratic National Committee when Murphy was the DNC national finance chairman.  Elizabeth Gilbert served as Tammy Murphy’s chief of staff during the 2017 gubernatorial campaign.

While Murphy endorsed Booker on the day he entered the race, he also has ties to Biden.  The former vice president made three appearances for Murphy during his campaign for governor.
