Salem County Commissioners Ben Laury and Mickey Ostrum, both Republicans, have fended off Democratic challengers Nelson Carney, Jr. and Catherine Bobbitt to retain their party’s 4-1 majority on the commission.
The incumbent Republican sheriff, Chuck Miller, was re-elected unopposed.
As it re-elects its local Republican candidates, Salem County may also be dooming the political futures of legislators in the 3rd legislative district, among them Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-West Deptford); he’s currently losing the county by more than 2,500 votes.
