Salem County, where Democrats controlled county government just seven years ago, continues to be solidly red, with Republicans sweeping four countywide races on Tuesday.
County Clerk Dale Cross defeated Charlyn Martin with 65% of the vote to capture a second term, and Chuck Miller was re-elected to a seventh term with 58% of the vote against Democrat Leroy Pierce.
County Commissioners Ben Laury (17,380) and Mickey Ostrum (16,285) easily outdistanced their Democratic challengers, Nelson Carney, Jr. (11,264) and Germer Ledford (9,522). Laury has been a county commissioner since 2009 and Ostrum ousted an incumbent in 2018.
Donald Trump, who won Salem by 13 points in 2020, now has a 20-point lead over Kamala Harris.
Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) carried Salem by 23 points against Democrat Joe Salerno. In the U.S. Senate race, Republican Curtis Bashaw led Democrat Andy Kim by 16 points.
