Perth Amboy Dem leader endorses Booker, slams Diaz

Caba says Booker ‘always there’ for Perth Amboy

Perth Amboy Democratic Municipal Chairman Helmin Caba has endorsed Cory Booker for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

Caba’s endorsement comes three days after Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz announced that she was supporting Bernie Sanders for president.

“Booker is our home state champion who is a fighter for working families. He is always there for the State of New Jersey and for the City of Perth Amboy,” said Caba, who also serves as a city councilman. “That is why I am still flabbergasted by Mayor Diaz’s endorsement.”

Caba said that Diaz is “no stranger to controversy” and that her “erratic behavior tends to ruffle people’s feathers.”

According to Caba, Diaz supported 40 candidates running against the local Democratic organization for county committee.  All the Diaz candidates lost, Caba said.

It’s actions such as these that not only shows, but proves the division she wants within our party, our city, our county, and our state,” said Caba. “I really don’t feel we can make any true progress or enact in any of the real change ‘we all want’ until we can become united to some degree.”

  1. Diaz is known for doing whatever she wants. When Craig Coughlin won the nomination for Assembly years ago, WD ranted that she would not vote vote for Democrats again, and went to Hall Avenue the next day saying the same thing. This was when Obama was running. She ran her people against the incumbent committee people before and my partner and I still won. Many of the people who did win only showed for the reorganization meeting and were never heard from again.
