Palisades Park race likely headed to recount

Incumbent trails by 8 votes in Democratic primary

By David Wildstein

Incumbent James Rotundo now trails councilman Christopher Chung by just 8 votes after picking up 10 in the counting of provisional ballots.  The race for the Democratic mayoral nomination is now expected to head to a recount.

If elected, Chung would become the first Korean-American mayor in a town that has a majority Asian population.  The 2010 census reported that 51% of Palisades Park residents are of Korean ancestry.

Rotundo has been mayor since 2004.
