Monmouth’s countywide Republicans grow their leads, but Biden, Booker still in first

Republican Countywide candidates in Monmouth continued to widen their lead Friday, but the Democrats at the top of their party’s ticket are still carrying the county.

Monmouth Freeholder Director Lillian burry holds is in first place with 133,796 votes. Her running mate Ross Licitra is close behind with 132,750 votes.

Democrats Michael Penna and Moira Nelson have 123,737 and 122,080 votes, respectively.

County Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon, a Republican, has a commanding lead over challenger Angela Ahbez Anderson. The incumbent leads by 35,631 votes, 147,465 to 111,834.

Despite those tallies, former Vice President Joe Biden still has more a lead of more than 10,000 votes over President Donald Trump. So far, he’s had 137,084 ballots cast in his name. President Donald Trump has 126,807 votes there.

U.S. Sen. Cory Booker (D-Newark) has a narrower 3,618-vote lead over Republican challenger Rik Mehta, who has so far earned 127,741 votes. Booker has 131,359.

It’s not clear how many votes remain uncounted in Monmouth.

In Howell, Democratic Mayor Theresa Berger continues to lead former K-8 School Board member Suzanne Brennan, 12,893 to 10,176.

Her council running mate, Democrat Andre De Garmeaux holds a narrower 972-vote lead over Deputy Mayor Evelyn O’Donnell. The incumbent is down 10,890 to 11,862.
