Michael Thompson, a trusts and estates attorney from Mendham, is seeking the Democratic nomination for Morris County Surrogate.
The likely Republican candidate is Michael Patrick Carroll (R-Morris Township), who is not seeking re-election to his 25th district Assembly seat after 24 years in the legislature.
Incumbent John Pecoraro is not seeking re-election after 20 years as surrogate.
“The role of the County Surrogate should be one of the least political jobs in government,” Thompson said. “My biggest liability in not being a politician is that I’m fairly unknown. I look forward to meeting with Morris County residents to explain why my particular set of skills makes me the best candidate to be the next Morris County Surrogate.”
