The Jersey Journal, Hudson County’s largest daily newspaper, has endorsed Jason O’Donnell for mayor of Bayonne.
The endorsement comes one day after Gov. Phil Murphy appeared in Bayonne with incumbent Jimmy Davis in a “no politics today” visit that was entirely political.
“O’Donnell is also the most informed of the three candidates,” the endorsement editorial said. “In endorsing O’Donnell, we look back to our 2014 observation that ‘being mayor calls for a detailed, multi-layered approach to making the city one of the best places to live in New Jersey.’ Davis has had his chance. We believe O’Donnell will be more successful.”
Davis unseated Mayor Mark Smith in 2014. O’Donnell is a former Assemblyman and Bayonne Democratic Municipal Chairman.
For City Council, the Jersey Journal endorsed O’Donnell running mates Melissa Enriquez-Rada, Sharma Montgomery and Kevin Kuhl, and two incumbents on the Davis team: Council President Sharon-Ashe Nadrowski, and Third Ward Councilman Gary La Pelusa.
