Nine Democratic freeholder candidates sailed to victory unopposed in Hudson County.
They include incumbents Kenneth Kopacz (District 1), Bill O’Dea (District 2), Jerry Walker (District 3), Anthony “Stick” Romano (District 5), Fanny Cedeno (District 6), Caridad Rodriguez (District 7), Anthony Vainieri, Jr. (District 8), Albert Cifelli (District 9).
In the District 4, Yraida Aponte-Lipsi, the wife of former Jersey City Councilman Steve Lipski, will win freeholder Joel Torres’s seat.
There’s reason behind the lack of Republican candidates. Hudson is staunchly Democratic, so much so that Democrats outnumber Republicans more than five-to-one there.
