Elizabeth Casey is the new Democratic State Committeewoman from Cape May County.
She ran unopposed in a special election last night to replace Rep. Jeff Van Drew’s chief of staff, Allison Murphy.
Murphy resigned on December 15 after word broke that Van Drew was switching to the Democratic Party.
Casey, an Ocean City attorney and former Assistant Counsel to the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, lost her bid for freeholder last month.
“Even though her previous attempt for Cape May County Freeholder was unsuccessful it has not deterred Mrs. Casey from continuing to fight for our democratic voice in Cape May County,” said Cape May County Democratic Chairman Brendan Sciarra. “I am very impressed with her ideas to improve our county in the future and her attention to the issues that concern our families and children.”
The Democratic State Committeeman from Cape May, John Amenhauser, resigned from Van Drew’s staff after the freshman congressman said he was bolting to the Republicans.
