A recount in the race for Holmdel Township Committee has flipped two seats from Republican to the independent candidates – one of them by just two votes.
Prakash Santhana defeated Republican Chiung-Ying Cheng Liu, 2,087 to 2,085.
Another independent, Cathy Weber, received 2,170 votes, outdistancing GOP Mayor Eric Hinds (2,066).
In the Republican primary, which also went to a recount, Liu ousted Republican incumbent Michael Nikolis by 11 votes, 668 to 657.
Holmdel remained solidly Republican in the State Assembly race.
Incumbent Serena DiMaso, a former Holmdel mayor, received 2,543 votes, with Gerald Scharfenberger winning 2,497 votes. Democrat Barbara Singer, who won 42% on her 2018 bid for a seat on the Holmdel Township Committee, received 1,605 votes in her Assembly bid.

Looks like Serena DiMaso’s team beat Shawn Golden’s team. Very interesting.
