The New Jersey Globe is projecting that State Sen. Ronald Rice (D-Newark), Assemblyman Ralph Caputo (D-Nutley), and Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker (D-Newark) have won re-election to the 28th legislative district.

They defeated Frank Contella, Anthony D’Angelo, and Monique Headen, respectively, for the heavily Democratic Newark-based district.

Caputo has the unique distinction of being the only member of the legislature to have served in the 1960s; he was elected to the Assembly in 1967 as a Republican, before the modern district system even began. Caputo lost after two terms, but made a comeback in 2007 alongside Tucker to oust two incumbent Democrats, and both have held the seats easily since.

Rice, for his part, has represented the district since 1986 and is among the legislature’s longest-serving members.
