State Sen. Ron Rice (D-Newark) defeated Quadir Selby to win the Democratic nod for State Senate Tuesday.
Rice, the immediate past chair of the Legislative Black Caucus, had organizational support behind his re-election bid. Selby ran under the slogan “New Jersey Democratic Party 2021.”
Rice will go on to face Republican Frank Contella in the general. The Essex County-based district is safely Democratic.
Assemblywoman Cleopatra Tucker (D-Newark) and Assemblyman Ralph Caputo (D-Nutley) were faced no primary opponents.
They’ll be up against Republicans Monique Headen and Anthony D’Angelo in November.
