Roger Bacon, a pro-Trump Democrat who frequently pops up to run for offices across the state, has lost his eighth attempt at public office, the New Jersey Globe projects.
Bacon filed to run this year for the State Senate in the 23rd legislative district, a solidly Republican district based in Warren County, on the “Drain the Swamp in Trenton Now!” ballot slogan. Local Democrats, meanwhile, chose Denise King, who ran for the same district in 2019 and 2021, as their preferred candidate against State Sen. Doug Steinhardt (R-Lopatcong).
As of 9:29 p.m., Bacon has just 6% of the vote to King’s 94%.
Bacon began running for office three decades ago with a Libertarian campaign for the 2nd congressional district in 1992. More recently, he ran for governor in 2021 (but was kicked off the ballot for petition issues) and for Congress in 2022, getting 6% of the vote against former Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) in the 7th district Democratic primary.
