U.S. Senator Bob Menendez will get some valuable time in the national spotlight as the ranking Democrat on the Senate committee that will hold hearings on President Trump’s new Secretary of State nominee.
Menendez returned to his post as ranking minority member on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last month. That panel is where Michael Pompeo, Trump’s pick to replace Rex Tillerson, will be interviewed and cleared before moving to the full Senate for a vote.
Menendez voted against Pompeo’s confirmation as director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
In 2017, the Foreign Relations Committee voted 11-0 along party lines to approve Tillerson’s nomination.
Focus on Pompeo comes during Menendez’s campaign for re-election.
